One of the primary drivers for the production of the Index of Wellbeing for Older Australians was to assist in the planning and delivery of services and other supports.

As stated by Prof Mike Woods in this interview,

"The multiple layers of data available in the Index create an important context in undertaking policy and program reviews on specific issues. This includes the relationships that any one government intervention should have alongside other services in those regions, including those that address disability, mental health and other support needs."

The Index is a powerful and useful tool for planners to ensure that their services are well located to the communities that need them, and that the services compliment the availability of other services in those communities. Assess to good data makes for good decision making.
